Shield
The black and white of the four rectangles symbolize night and day, around the clock combat readiness; plus the number 4 reflects the name of the unit's Brigade and Division. Gold is emblematic of excellence and high achievement. Red denotes courage and action. The griffin a heraldic beast of strength and vigilance, is holding the lightning flash for swift deployment, communications and intelligence responsibilities. The sword is for all the combat support missions the unit provides to enable the 4th Brigade, 4th Infantry Division to accomplish assigned objectives.
Crest
The Special Troops Battalion's campaign participation credits for Iraq, War on Terrorism is highlighted by the Middle Eastern portal shape with the scimitar, sand dunes, and palm wreath. The red and blue stars on a white field reflect our National colors and signify the American presence and resolve to bring security, prosperity, and freedom to the people of Iraq.
The coat of arms was originally approved for Special Troops Battalion, 4th Brigade, 4th Infantry Division on 3 February 2005. It was amended to correct the unit designation to Special Troops Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division and add a crest on 14 August 2007.
